LOOM22 is the home of Modular Music, a format it coined and built. It began with an artist’s conviction that the relationship between a musical work and its listener has been critically misunderstood. Recorded music treated the work as a finished file and the listener as a metric. Both were wrong. The work is never finished, and the listener is not a metric. The listener is an artist too.

What Modular Music allows

A modular song is published as parts the artist chooses to open, not as a finished file. What that allows:

  • Listening becomes making. Inside the rules each artist wrote, a listener shapes, performs and keeps their own way of hearing a song. The listener is an artist too; the source stays its artist’s.
  • The work keeps growing after release. The release date is not a ceiling. It is the opening.
  • Every version leads back to its source. Lineage is written once and never rewritten: attribution flows backward, discovery flows forward.
  • Support follows closeness. Listeners support the specific artists they want to stay close to, directly and by name. Closeness, not scale.
  • No vanity metrics. No feeds, no trending charts, no follower counts. Every listen here is a person.
  • Every note has an author. No generation of AI music on the platform. Provenance is recorded at upload, signed and dated: authorship is proven, not claimed.

Principles

  • Artists keep 100% of their authorship and IP. What a listener makes never transfers the artist’s rights.
  • Artist audio is never used to train AI that makes music, by LOOM22 or by anyone through LOOM22. Any other training use needs the artist’s explicit opt-in.
  • No licensing without the artist’s explicit consent.
  • The proposed paid model directs support to chosen artists, rather than a catalogue-wide pool.
  • The proposed artist share is at least 70% of every sale. The proposed platform rate starts at 30% and is designed to step down to a 22% floor as LOOM22 grows. Once a step is reached, it never goes back up. So the artist’s share rises from 70% to 78%. Paid commerce is not live; neither income nor an automatic reduction is guaranteed.
  • Invite-only, because the quality of the community matters more than its size.

No generation of AI music on the platform. The platform does not offer, host, or integrate any generative music AI tools in any form. No built-in generation, no embedded generation, no third-party generation APIs. Creators may use tools of their choosing, including AI-assisted production, in their own process outside the platform. The platform does not classify or badge music by production method. Transparency is structural: provenance records, authorship records, and the invitation-based trust network. There are no trending feeds, no follower counts, no algorithmic recommendation, no attention mechanics. Support is direct. Discovery is intentional.

What LOOM22 Is Not

Not Spotify. Spotify uses pro-rata pooling — listener fees shared across all streams regardless of who you listen to. LOOM22 allocates listener support directly to specific chosen artists. On Spotify, you stream passively. On LOOM22, you go inside the music.

Not Bandcamp. Bandcamp sells finished tracks as static files. On LOOM22 the music stays alive after release, with provenance and authorship intact. Bandcamp is a download store. LOOM22 is the modular music platform.

Not Patreon. Patreon offers creator-defined memberships and one-time purchases, which can include the work itself. LOOM22 ties support to the music itself: the closer you are to an artist, the further inside their music you can go.

The Name

22 is the convergence symbol. Two 2s facing each other: creator and listener, idea and execution, emotion and engineering. In numerology, 22 is the Master Builder — big vision meeting practical execution. A loom turns separate threads into fabric. Making music and loving music, finally part of the same act.
